Secret Sauna.

Just outside Bungay on Wainford Road, right next to The Silo. It's hidden on the banks of the River Waveney on a private river island, accessible by car, foot, bike or river. Full address and directions are shared once you book.

Private slots are for 2–6 people — the cabin fits 6 if you're happy to be cosy. For groups of 6, we suggest the Plus Campfire package: it's a longer session with more seating outside, so everyone gets proper time in the sauna. Evening Embers allows booking for just one person.

Yes — eGift cards of various amounts, available here and emailed straight to your recipient. They don't expire.

Yes! Just let us know in advance if you're arriving by water, so we're watching the riverbank rather than the car park. We'll send exact coordinates.

Very limited — please car-share if you can (arriving by bike, canoe or paddleboard is even better). There's officially one space at The Silo, which fills fast on weekends; after that, park along the road.

Water bottles and towels — two per person is a good rule, one to sit on and one to dry off with (we provide fresh tap water on site). Warm clothes, swimming gear and a torch are worth packing too.

Yes — home-made, seasonal picnic boxes from local chef Nancy Campbell, vegetarian by default (vegan/GF available), with everything you need for a riverside feast. Not bookable online — from £155 for two including sauna and campfire, email us directly to arrange.

Not a proper one — instead there's a cold water bucket shower. Rustic, and most guests love it: a great way to cool down if dipping in the river isn't your thing.

Yes, a simple compost toilet a short walk from the sauna, shared with guests of The Silo Cafe.

We do offer evening bookings, though the latest start time shifts with the season and available light — we're off-grid, through a small woodland. Path lighting is good, but the riverbank is dark, so we strongly advise against swimming after dark.

Yes — rain or shine, 7 days a week, all 12 months. Winter opening hours are shorter than summer's, given the light.

We stay open in pretty much anything — come prepared for all weathers. We only close in rare cases like severe storms or a flooded river. There's a small covered area, and the sauna itself is shelter too. If the forecast looks grim, you can reschedule up to 48 hours ahead.

Free of charge, up to 48 hours before your appointment — just use "reschedule or cancel" in your confirmation email.

On Facebook and Google — almost 500 five-star reviews on our original booking system, some shared in the "reviews" highlight on our Instagram. We also made The Times' top 20 best wild saunas in the UK.

Occasionally the system holds a slot in your cart for a while even if you haven't paid, which can make it look booked when it isn't. If a slot vanished mid-payment and you got no confirmation, it didn't go through — wait ten minutes, then try again in a new browser or device. You'll always get an email and text once it's confirmed (check spam if not).

Yes — it's built into the booking platform. If your preferred day and time is full, add your details at the bottom of the booking section ("Don't see your preferred date or time?") and we'll alert you if a spot opens up.

Currently just for women — Evening Embers, our weekly community session, bookable here.

We can consider groups of up to 8 — beyond that, the island gets crowded. Groups over 6 should book the campfire package for more seating and a longer session, so everyone gets a proper turn in the sauna (which comfortably fits 5, or 6 if you're cosy).

Please don't bring disposable BBQs — we're in the middle of woodland and it's an added fire risk. If you've booked a campfire package, a campfire tripod or portable grill is welcome over our fire (campfire add-on: £15). Please take all rubbish and food waste home with you.

A single changing cubicle, open-air. Facilities are rustic and basic by design — we're off-grid, in the woods, next to the river, not a five-star spa.

There's river access via some steps, used at your own risk — no swimming after storms or when levels are high and currents strong. It's deep and unpredictable in places, so swimming is best left to strong, experienced swimmers, and we can't vouch for water quality. If you do swim, keep your head above water. The cold bucket shower is a safer (and still invigorating) alternative most guests love.

The Silo Cafe is on the same site, open 7 days 9am–3pm. Downstream in Geldeston, The Locks Inn is a community-owned riverside pub well worth the walk or paddle. In and around Bungay: Suffolk Stonehouse for pizza, Source Bistro for seasonal gourmet, Fiano for Mediterranean, The Olive Tree for Italian, The Fleece Inn for pub grub, and Earsham Street Café for lunch or tea.

Overnight stays on-site aren't possible, but there's plenty nearby — including Wainford Mill Cottage and Wainford Mill House right here on the estate, plus campsites and glamping across the Waveney Valley.
